The Espejos en Ioannina project by Rafael Trapiello, created in partnership with Second Tree, challenges common narratives about refugees. Influenced by Second Tree’s Refugees Are People community engagement model, it challenges victimising portrayals, presenting refugees not as ‘victims’ or ‘heroes,’ but as individuals whose lives and identities extend beyond displacement.

Started in 2016, Second Tree continues to work in Greece and beyond through anti-bias trainings, advocacy, and education programmes for youth and adult refugees, dismantling narratives that treat refugees as the “other” and building communities where everyone has an equal voice in shaping change.
