United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) – UNHCR funded two rounds of our Twinning program and is currently funding our Greek language program for adults. They also provide weekly transportation for our Youth Scout program and supported our English language program by purchasing Cambridge Empower books for our students and teachers.
Oxfam – Second Tree supported Oxfam in the evacuation of the Katsikas refugee camp in December 2016, with logistics and community management. Second Tree then operated in the Oxfam-managed accommodation for refugees, where Second Tree provided non-formal education, transportation, coverage of dental and optical needs, and distribution of non-food items. The fruitful working relationship was certified in writing in June 2017. Oxfam is not operational in the region anymore.
Terre des Hommes (TDH) – Through a call for proposals, Second Tree partnered with TDH, who funded and supported our English language programme until the end of February 2018 in four different sites (the Community Centre for Urban Population, Agia Eleni, Konitsa and Doliana refugee camps). We currently provide English and Greek classes, run a kindergarten and support Arabic classes taught by a Syrian teacher, in the Community Centre operated by TDH.
InterSOS – Through our participation in their call for proposals, we won three different grants: two rounds of the Twinning program and the Greek language program. We also deliver our English classes at the sites managed by them.
University of Ioannina – We have collaborated with the University since January 2017 in the delivery of English classes to children, and through our Twinning and Scout programs. In March 2018 we strengthened the collaboration, when we incorporated the University’s teachers and scientific responsible in our proposal for the provision of Greek language classes to adults. The proposal was successful and Second Tree is now continuing the University of Ioannina education program for refugees in Ioannina and in the Agia Eleni refugee camp.
Arsis – an MoU signed in January 2017 that provided us access to refugees sites where Arsis was site manager; this collaboration that involved the provision of non-formal educational activities for children and adults in the form of English classes, access to dental and optical care and transportation. The most recent MoU, signed April 2018, grants us access to Katsikas Camp and the Safe Zone for Unaccompanied Minors in Agia Eleni, to provide English classes. Arsis will support us by ensuring access to the camp, transportation for our staff, procurement of resources needed to deliver our English program including course books, stationary and furniture, the provision of a space and support in the delivery, as needed.
Il Raggio – an Italian NGO, who covered bureaucratic and administrative costs for the first year of existence. They also provided invaluable administrative support, helping us through the bureaucratic steps of setting up the NGO, as well as providing access to knowledge resources by including us in their consortium of NGOs (COESA), whose members have supported us with proposal-writing and statutes.
